About Me

Alli Shenton Zambian Mosaic
Alli was born and raised in Zambia. She studied Fine Art in Sweden and then at Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town. She lived in South Luangwa National Park for 3 years where she built Magenge Crafts, working with local artists to produce contemporary crafts. During this time completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree with the University of South Africa in African Politics and Anthropology. In 1998 she moved to Livingstone, home of the Victoria Falls, where she established a craft gallery, African Visions, trading high quality artefacts from all over central Africa. In 2003 she opened African Visions Vegetarian Restaurant. In between that Alli has run Wildlife and Environmental Projects, helped set up Acacia International Primary School and worked on a number of tourist publications. She also inspired and coordinated the 1999 and 2000 Livingstone Festival of Arts, an international extravaganza of music, theatre and art. Alli began working with mosaics 4 years ago and has found a medium that is wonderfully diverse, I love the interplay of color, the contrast of texture. Geometrical patterns are integral to African art and mosaic encompasses this as well as a beautiful freedom of flow.
